Adolf Schneeberger (1897-1977)

COMPOSITION III

1925
Vintage gelatin silver print on matte paper. 267x223 mm. Originally mounted on board (420x358 mm), signed and dated lower right in pencil, annotated on the verso. Photograph Composition III represents a rare example of Schneeberger`s work from the period shortly after the exhibition of Drahomír Josef Růžička in Prague in 1924. Schneeberger`s photograph is a great example of pure purism of the first half of the 1920s. The author used a new motif in an old mood - the overgrown dustbin in sharp sunshine with a distinct shadow. Light plays a very important role in the picture, it seems to be the subject of photography itself. The simplicity of shapes and lines, the sophisticated composition and the modernity of the theme make this picture the pearl of Czech photography of the 1920`s. Second copy in the collections of Moravian Gallery in Brno, inv. No.: MG 7592. Condition A/B.
Minor silver mirroring in the darks, tiny spots in the picture area.
