Jaroslav Rössler (1902-1990)

DANCER ORE TARRACO

1923
Vintage gelatin silver print on a postcard. 105x80 mm (138x88 mm). Marked in picture area "RÖSSL" and under the picture "Ore Tarraco", dated in ink on the verso. Jaroslav Rössler was not only a photographer but also an excellent painter and drawer. He was seeking to create artwork using different techniques. He used the advantage of the bromoil process, which allows local inking or applying extra paint so the original image can be changed. In the portrait of dancer Ore Tarraco, Rössler connected analytical cubism and futurism and created a unique work on the border of drawing and photography. The original print is in the collections of the Moravian Gallery in Brno (Inv. No. MG 5279). This photograph is a photographic reproduction made by the artist himself. Lit.: V plném spektru (exhibition catalogue), Moravská galerie v Brně 2001, p. 208; P. Štěpán: Jaroslav Rössler, kresby a malby, České Budějovice 2012, p. 24. Condition A/B.
