WEDDING COLUMN CLOCK

Austria 1850s (after 1854)
Classic black lacquered portal clock featuring two alabaster columns with gilt wooden bases and capitals. Above the clock face, centered between the cornices, is a cylindrical case resembling ephemeral pavilion architecture, displaying wedding portraits of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria (Sissi). The front of the pedestal’s central section holds a small engraving, under glass, depicting the paddle steamer Emperor Franz Joseph, which brought the young bride and her entourage from Passau to Vienna. The lower section includes a music box. 70x38x13 cm. Condition C/D. Partially missing alabaster elements on the upper cornice, music box in need of cleaning, original condition.
