SEAL WITH THE ALLIANCE COAT OF ARMS OF THE SALM-REIFFERSCHEIDT AND CLAM-MARTINIC FAMILIES
Bohemia,
19th century
Gilt bronze, agate (?), length 8,7 cm, seal surface 17x15,5 mm, the opposite end of the handle bears engraved initials beneath a count’s coronet.
The union of these two noble families occurred through the marriage of Augusta Salm-Reifferscheidt-Raitz (November 5, 1833, Prague – June 11, 1891, Prague) and Jindřich Jaroslav Clam-Martinic (June 15, 1826 – June 5, 1887, Prague). Augusta was a talented painter, particularly of floral still lifes, and a pupil of Amálie Mánesová (1817–1883). In 1851, she married Count Clam-Martinic, a prominent pro-Czech conservative politician. Their marriage remained childless.
