Book format 4°, 27.8 × 18.7 cm. 89 numbered pp., in French. Title page printed in black and red within a coloured decorative border. Illustrated by F. Kupka with 25 etchings (with aquatint) and a series of smaller coloured woodcuts, signed "E. Gaspé sc.". Contemporary half-leather binding in brown morocco with marbled paper, spine with gilt-tooled decoration and lettering, top edge gilt, signed "THIERRY SIMIER". Original wrappers bound in. Published by A. Romagnol in Paris in 1908 in a total edition of 300 copies, of which the first 10 were printed on papier vélin d’Arches and contained 3 states of the etchings; copies 11–110 contained 3 states of the etchings and were printed on Japon and papier d’Arches; copies 111–300 contained only the final state of the etchings in print and were printed on papier d’Arches. This copy is no. 178. At the end bound-in a sample six-page advertisement leaflet for the book.
On the cover and several leaves minor stains, spine slightly rubbed, otherwise very good condition.
Bookbinder Thierry sc. de Petit-Simier was one of the direct successors of the famous French bookbinder René Simier. He ran the workshop until 1908.
