Jaroslav Rössler (1902-1990)

COMPOSITION

1949
Gouache on board, 260x430 mm, stamped and marked in pencil on the reverse "Originál mého otce, Sylvia Vítová-Rösslerová". Framed. During his two-month illness in 1949, Jaroslav Rössler turned his attention to drawing, which he had previously used mainly in the 1920`s during his stay in Paris. When compared to the Paris period, the works from 1949 show a clear inclination to surrealism. Rössler deals with the intermingling worlds of the interiors and streets. The work has a special poetic color and softness of shades and shapes in contrast to more technical and geometrical drawings of that period. Remarkable in this work is the reminiscence of interwar art and the influence of Devětsil. Visible is also the influence of Josef Šíma, whose work was fascinating for Rössler.
