Caspar Franz Sambach - připsáno (1715-1795)
THE APOTHEOSIS OF ST. JOHN OF NEPOMUK
Oil on canvas, 36x59 cm. Probably a design for a larger altar painting, related to the growing number of dedications to Saint John after his canonization in 1729. The stylistic affinity and typical Central European theme lead us to the graduates of the Vienna Academy working in Bohemia or Moravia, and here especially to the proximity of Caspar Franz Sambach, or his son Johann Caspar. A remarkable similarity not only in the subject matter and compositional scheme but even in the shape and proportions of the frame can be seen in the altar painting of Saint John of Nepomuk from the parish church of St. Bartholomew in Zábřeh na Moravě from 1773, which is a joint work of both artists. In this case, this could be one of the design variations for the mentioned altar. Condition restored. Compare with the thesis: Caspar Franz a Johann Christian Sambach.
