SHAHSAVAN KHORJIN (SADDLEBAGS)

Eastern Caucasus, Mughan Plain (southeastern Azerbaijan) End of the 19th century
Hand-woven and embroidered woolen saddlebags made by the nomadic Shahsavan tribe, with evident inspiration from the Caucasus design known as Akstafa (featuring stylized eagles). Produced using a special weaving and embroidery technique, combining the dominant sumak flat-weave technique with other methods. Condition A.
