SAINT JOHN OF NEPOMUK

Folk wood carving represents the most famous Czech saint and patron, dressed in traditional canonical robe, standing on a low-profiled plinth. The head, adorned with a metal halo with 5 stars, is slightly inclined to the right side. The saint holds a cross in his right hand and a biret in his left hand. High relief, designed for a frontal view, with the backside smooth and undecorated. Wood, polychrome, gilding, h. 29,5 cm. Condition C. Two missing fingers on the left hand, traces of woodworm, rust, partially loose polychrome.
