GIRAFFE PIANO

Berlin 1830-40
The so-called "Giraffe piano" (forte-piano en giraffe) is a type of piano with vertical strings, in this case with a symmetrical soundboard. The offered unrestored instrument was built around 1830. Inside, there is a fabric-covered frame, which served as a dust filter, a pierced front panel, and a construction made of oak, spruce, and beech wood, veneered with mahogany. The keyboard, supported by gilded dolphin figures on the sides, has six octaves, with the lowest note being E, and the highest being F. The keyboard width is 99 cm. It is marked with an enameled label with the name and address J. Muhler, Mauerstasse 35, Berlin. 206x121x57cm. Condition corresponding to the age. Before complete renovation..
