CHRIST BEARING THE CROSS

Central Europe, 1st half of the 19th century, frame made before 1700
Devotional miniature painting captures the half-length figure of Christ crowned with thorns, wearing a red robe with a blue cloak, carrying the cross, with head and gaze directed upwards, on dark background. The motif is inspired by Italian Renaissance painting. Oil on metal sheet, 17x12.8 cm, unmarked, secondarily mounted in a Baroque carved and silvered acanthus frame 36x30 cm. Condition restored. Craquelure, minor defects, overall good condition, cracks and scratches on the frame. Equipped with NPÚ (The National Heritage Board) certificate for permanent export, NPÚ Brno 2023.
