DZHIGITOVKA AND LEZGIN (NÁVRAT KOZÁKA)

Patinated cast iron, h. 27 cm, designed by V.F. Torokin after Yevgeny Alexandrovich Lansere, signed on pedestal, foundry mark and date "КАС.З.1903" (KAS.Z.1903), and name of the modeler: "П. Перминъ" (P. Permin) on the bottom. The sculpture depicts dzhigitovka - an exercise on a galloping horse, practiced by some nations in Central Asia and the Caucasus. The Lezgins are members of the indigenous population of southeastern Dagestan and northern Azerbaijan. The Kasli foundry began casting this sculptural group in 1887. In the 1880s and 1890s, it became very popular for its depicting of the exotic life of highlanders and nomads. Condition B.
