JUG WITH PEWTER LID
Germany, Hanau, probably Johann Helferich Auer, beginning of the 18th century
Pitcher with spherical body and longer slender neck (Enghalskrug/Enghalskanne type), base, and strip handle with pewter lid with spherical thumb rest, faience glazed in light blue, decorated with cobalt-toned painting with motifs of flowers, birds, and insects.
H. 29 cm.
Bottom brush marked "A"; pewter mark with initials "IS" on the lid, probably Jonas Steinmetz, Nuremberg, active in 1688-1720 (Erwin Hintze [Hrsg.], Die deutschen Zinngießer und ihre Marken (Band 2): Nürnberger Zinngiesser, Leipzig 1921, p. 116, no. 346.
