BIEDERMEIER TABLE

Table with a round top on an octagonal pedestal supported by three S-shaped curved legs, which are connected at the lower third of their height by a three-leaf stretcher. In one of the eight facets of the pedestal, there is a small drawer, likely for business cards. The body is made of softwood, fully veneered with walnut veneer, with a star-shaped marquetry design on the top. Similar delicate tables were typically used for placing a tray, on which a visitor would leave his business card (or possibly his hat and gloves) in the hall, so the butler could deliver it to the host.
