TANKARD (PILASTERKRUG)

Cylindrical beer jug with handle and upper rim adorned with pewter mount with lid featuring spherical thumbrest, faience, reddish ceramic, white glazed, decorated with painting in high-fired colors featuring motifs of pilasters and cartouches with manganese marbling and floral motifs. The lid with relief decoration depicts a scene from Swiss history (The Oath in Grütli) and inscription: "ZELT DER ERSTE PUNDT WARD VON GOT ERWELT DO MAN 1308". Total h. 32 cm. Unmarked. Condition B. Hairline cracks, scratches in glaze. Provenance: private collection, Bavaria.
