TWO FIGURINES

Austria, Vienna, Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten circa 2nd quarter of the 20th century
Bird Catcher (Vogelfänger), a delicate figurine in Art Deco design, white porcelain, colorfully painted over the glaze, flesh tones, gilded details, low circular base with a support. Designed by Mathilde Szendrö-Jaksch, blue printed underglaze shield mark with crown “Wien,” red printed overglaze “Augarten Austria,” impressed model number 1540, red painter’s brush mark “64,” height 14 cm, restored (holds a tray with a bunch of grapes in the right hand instead of a birdcage). Eel Seller (Aalverkäufer) with a basket and a staff, white porcelain, brightly painted over the glaze, flesh tones, low irregular base with a support imitating natural terrain. Based on a historical model from around 1750, blue printed underglaze shield mark with crown “Wien,” white printed mark “AUGARTEN WIEN AUSTRIA,” impressed model number “1014,” “MADE IN AUSTRIA” and “Y,” black painter’s brush mark “93,” height 17,5 cm.
