Book format 4°, 27.7 × 19.2 cm, XIV, 114 numbered pp., in French. Translated and with an introduction by Lucien Dhuys. Title page printed in black and red. Illustrated by F. Kupka with 20 coloured etchings in the text and a full-page frontispiece. Contemporary half-leather binding in brown morocco with marbled paper, spine with four raised bands, tooled decoration and gilt lettering; top edge gilt, signed "CANAPE". Original wrappers bound in. Published by Librairie A. Blaizot in Paris in 1911. Apart from a unique copy containing original watercolours by F. Kupka and another 10 reserved for the publisher, the total edition comprised 250 numbered copies, of which the first 100 deluxe copies, numbered 1–100, on Japan Imperial paper, contained the first three states of the etchings, and a further 150, numbered 101–250, on papier vélin d’Arches, contained one final state of the coloured etchings in the text. This copy is no. 112. On the front pastedown ex libris Jacques Crépineau. At the end bound-in an advertising bifolium for the book. Binding slightly rubbed, margins of the leaves slightly browned, otherwise in good condition. Georges Canape (1864–1940) – bookbinder active between 1894 and 1937. Son of the bookbinder J. Canape.
