Carved Macedonian onyx, h. 92,3 cm. “As the name suggests, this sculpture turns towards the archaic period of Greek art, and thus the beginnings of European art. In its simplicity it recalls the Cycladic idols. After I discovered onyx for myself, I decided to ‘collaborate with God’, i.e. to accentuate the beauty and qualities of this material. Hence the simplicity. I imagine this torso emerging from desert sand and someone after us saying: ‘A human being lived here.’” Condition A.
