WALL TABLE WITH A GREEN FELT TOP

Austria 1820s - 1830s
Console writing desk made of softwood, fully veneered with walnut and decorated with fine banded marquetry and maple stringing. The keyholes are inlaid with maple in the shape of escutcheons. A pair of ebonised columns supports the top with a single wide drawer and a decorative balustrade flanking the writing surface. On the desktop rests a superstructure with side drawers and one wide drawer beneath the crowning cornice. A beautiful example of Biedermeier domestic culture, probably created in the late 1820s east of Vienna. 118x116x62 cm. Condition restored.
