CENTREPIECE WITH PIERCED DÉCOR

Moravia, Kopřivnice, Adolf Raška jr., c. 1880s - 1890s
Majolica basket on a low pedestal, with richly pierced, mostly double-walled sides in a historicising floral design, painted in colourful pastel tones with gilding. In the 1880s, when the factory focused on ornamental ceramics primarily for export, Adolf Raška Jr. added a new mark to the “Nesselsdorf” designation, applied as a blue underglaze stamp. It consisted of two church towers with the letters M, N and AR, indicating the place of manufacture — Moravia Nesselsdorf — and the owner of the factory, A. Raška Jr. See: P. Kutačová, Kopřivnická keramika, Master’s thesis, Ústav archeologie a muzeologie FF MU, Brno 2009, p. 24. H. 17 cm, l. 27 cm, w. 22,5 cm. Blue printed underglaze factory mark with the inscription “MORAVIA”, impressed model no. “960” and letter “M”, and a gold brush-painted mark “3.” Condition B.
