BRNO MADONNA OF ST. THOMAS

Oil on canvas, 38.5×25 cm (45.5×32 cm). This icon, after the model of the famous Gothic image of the Madonna of St. Thomas, depicts the half-length figure of the Virgin Mary Hodegetria in a dark mantle, her head covered with a maphorion, adorned with a lozenge-shaped clasp at the neck. On her left arm she holds the seated Christ Child, who blesses with his right hand while holding the Book of the Law (instead of a scroll) in his left. In the gilded background, ornamental haloes with crowns and the initials of the Mother of God are tooled. Framed. Condition B. Restored, new stretcher..
