PEWTER TANKARD

Switzerland, probably Biel, 1694
A tankard of conical shape with an egg-and-dart stamped décor, strap handle and a hinged lid with a thumbpiece, pewter, H. 28.5 cm. On the lid, engraved initials "ED AK", on the front in a wreath an inscription with the date "1694", on the bottom a "Bodenrosette" – cf. Gustav Bossard, Die Zinngiesser der Schweiz und ihr Werk, Zug 1934, vol. II, pp. 206–207, no. 580; further marks on the underside of the lid. Condition B.
