HEAD OF ATHENA LEMNIA

Patinated bronze, incrusted iris of the eyes, H. 51 cm incl. stone base with wooden pad. Athena Lemnia was a classical Greek statue of the goddess Athena, which stood on the Athenian Acropolis. According to the traveller Pausanias, who visited Athens in the 2nd century AD, the statue was created by Pheidias in the 5th century BC for the inhabitants of the island of Lemnos. Condition A.
