Format 2°, 32x23.5 cm. Travel photograph album in full cloth binding with gilt title and color-printed motif of a bedouin on a camel. Contains 18 leaves with gilt edges, fitted on both sides with frames for inserting photographs. The album`s contents comprise a total of 89 predominantly topographical, but also figural, photographs and postcards of various formats and techniques. 53 images are the work of the Lehnert & Landrock studio, 15 originate from the ship`s photographer Leo Hannet, 2 photographs are unmarked, and the remaining 19 are postcards. Depicted are well-known destinations such as Trieste, Ragusa (Dubrovnik), Corfu, Malta, Tunis, Carthage, Ajaccio, Nice, Monte Carlo, Taormina and others. The photographs are on the whole in good condition, with only a few lightly marked with black pencil, faint silvering visible in the dark areas, some postcards creased or soiled, the binding rubbed in places, the spine torn, corners frayed and leaves partially unglued. The Lützow was a German mail steamer of the Norddeutscher Lloyd company. It was built in 1908 at the AG Weser shipyard in Bremen. It served long-distance routes to East Asia and Australia, remaining in operation until 1932. The photographer Leo Hannet of Bremerhaven worked aboard the Lützow chiefly in July 1930. At that time Norddeutscher Lloyd used the steamer, among other purposes, for special social and round-trip cruises. Hannet was engaged as the official photographer for a large round-trip voyage to the North Cape organized by Old Prussian Masonic lodges. From this voyage a memorial book/chronicle was produced, containing 22 photographic illustrations, the work of Leo Hannet of Bremerhaven and C. Simon of Bremen. Hannet was a well-known photographer and postcard publisher in the region at the time. He documented both activity in the port of Bremerhaven, where he had his studio, and life and expeditions aboard the ships of the Norddeutscher Lloyd company.
