Štěpán: Jaroslav Rössler, kresby a malby, České Budějovice 2012, p. 32. In this painting the famous photographer depicted his birthplace in Smilov near Štoky in the Havlíčkův Brod region. He lived in Smilov until the age of fifteen, when - after unsuccessful studies at the grammar school in Havlíčkův Brod and the business school in Kolín - his parents sent him to apprentice at the Prague studio of the photographer František Drtikol.
