Jaroslav Vávra (1920-1981)
SÓLO PRO JEDNU RUKU
1960`s
Bibliophile book made by Jaroslav Vávra as a single original, contains 28 mounted gelatin silver prints, locally toned. The cover is also created in a photographic way. The only text in the book is an Epitaph on Charles Baudelaire`s condemned book.
This very rare book was created for the personal needs of the author. The photographs expand the idea of Vávra`s photographic work, mostly influenced by op-art, informel and surrealism. Sólo pro jednu ruku (Solo for One Hand) depicts a male hand and a female act. The hand, in black and white tonality, travels over a sepia-toned female body in a strange game. The hand here looks like a separate animal species, like a spider discovering the secrets and beauties of the naked female body.
