MADONNA

Linded wood, tempera, h. 83 cm. Carving in linden wood of a crowned Madonna with a baby on her left arm, in a crimson dress and a blue plaid with gold lining, standing in contrapposto on a green plinth in Baroque style. High-quality work in style of Baroque historicism refers in the face and posture to the tradition of the Bohemian Madonnas of the early 15th century. The work probably came from one of the monastic centers in Austrian historical lands.
Partially non-original polychrome, broken fingertips of the right hand, missing cross on the top of the crown.
