COVERS FOR A CHARTER FOR ANTON DREHER

1895
Size 2°, 41x31 cm. Yellow and white metal, leather, velvet, coloured enamels, under a glass cover a portrait of Anton Dreher. Boards covered with blue fabric, marked "CZETTEL és DEUTSCH BUDAPEST". Housed in a cardboard case. Anton Dreher Junior (German: Carl Anton Maria Dreher junior) (21 March 1849, Schwechat – 6 August 1921, Altkettenhof) was an Austro-Hungarian brewing entrepreneur. Son and successor who further expanded and modernised the family empire. The charter relates to the grand celebrations of the 25th anniversary of his takeover of the family enterprise. Anton Dreher Junior officially took over the management of the breweries after the death of his father and guardians in 1870. The year 1895 was therefore a year of great jubilee celebrations for the company. At that time, it was customary for officials and employees of large enterprises to commission luxury commemorative charters or albums with the owner`s likeness as a token of respect. In September 1895, Anton Dreher Junior was at the absolute peak. His brewery in Schwechat was the largest on the European continent and he himself was at that time appointed a lifetime member of the House of Lords (the upper chamber of the Austrian parliament). 6 September: This specific date may have been the day when this charter was ceremonially presented to him during internal company celebrations, or it was the day of approval of new statutes of his expanding concern. Cardboard slipcase damaged.
