PAIR OF SOKOL CHRONICLES IN LUXURY BINDING AND SLIPCASE
1938
Chronicle of the Sokol gymnastics association in Kalná Voda near Trutnov, part 1 and part 2. The chronicles are housed in a custom-made box case in Art Deco style, using natural cowhide. The upper part of the case is decorated with a relief of linden leaves, ornamental motifs and a gilt ornament consisting of the letters S O K O L. On the centre pastedown marked "Navrhl a provedl: Vojta Holanec, ml. Jablonné n. Orl.".
Part 1: Size 4°, 29x21 cm. 396 numbered pp. with all-gilt edges. Full leather relief binding with gilt decoration and lettering depicting a falcon holding a dumbbell in its claws. On the rear pastedown stamped "Navrhl a provedl: Vojta Holanec, ml. Jablonné n. Orl.". Hand-painted frontispiece. Blank.
Part 2: Size 4°, 28x22 cm. 28 leaves, conceived as a photo album. Full leather relief binding with gilt decoration and lettering. On the rear pastedown stamped "Navrhl a provedl: Vojta Holanec, ml. Jablonné n. Orl.". Upper part of the spine and front board soiled.
Enclosed is a loose sheet of the handover protocol from 1938. Also enclosed: Dr. Václav Černý, Kronikář, Státní naklad. in Prague, 1936, 58 pp. and two Sokol badges.
