ART DECO COVERS FOR A CHARTER

1930
Richly decorated bookbinder-made boards for a document, covered with leather, partly pigskin, cowhide and in the interior parchment with two leather straps and metal elements, 28x39x4 cm. On the boards a relief: initials "AG" and the date "3.V. 1860 1930". Inside the boards gilt lettering on white parchment "OBCHODNÍ A ŽIVNOSTENSKÁ KOMORA V PRAZE 1860 SVÉMU PŘEDSEDOVI ARNOŠTU GROSSMANNOVI 1930". Minor signs of wear, mainly at the corners. Ink stain on the rear. Arnošt Grossmann (3 May 1860 – 22 March 1931) in his youth founded a shop for technical supplies, which he ran for thirty-five years. In 1898 he reportedly initiated the production of compressed gases in Bohemia. He was active in various committees, trade and other associations, and also served as a curator of the Museum of Decorative Arts. In 1902 he was elected to the Chamber of Commerce and Trade, where he served until 1930, the last four years as its director.
