Coloured copperplate on paper, 36,5x46,5 cm, marked by the right edge "Communicauit / G. Houfnaglius, / depictum / a filio A.o 1617.". Illustration from Volume 6 of the Civitates Orbis Terrarum atlas. The six-volume atlas, the largest book of city views and plans ever published, contained 363 engravings, sometimes colored. It was one of the best-selling works of the last quarter of the 16th century. The first volume was published in Latin in 1572, and the sixth in 1617. The accompanying text on the back of the illustrations was written by Georg Braun. Many plates were engraved after original drawings by Joris Hoefnagel (1542-1600). mounted, framed, glazed. In the central part, the paper is torn in two places, and on the verso, there is a handwritten note about the origin of the damage: "Obraz rozstřílen Rusy 21. srpna 1968...".("Image shoot by Russians on August 21, 1968...")
