PROMETHEUS, PRIORITY EDITION WITH THREE STATES OF ETCHINGS

Book format 4°, 27,7x19 cm. XXXIX, 105 numbered pages, in French. Title page printed in black and orange, as well as initials and vignettes. Illustrated by F. Kupka. The book contains three sets (states) of 18 etchings, or etchings with aquatint, including three full-page and three half-page illustrations introducing the sections of the tragedy (Prometheus the Fire-Bearer, Prometheus Bound, Prometheus Unbound), while the remaining half-page illustrations accompany the middle section. Published by Auguste Blaizot in Paris in 1924 in an edition of 200 copies on Japan paper, of which only copies 1–50 contain three sets of illustrations. This copy is numbered 47. Full leather custom binding in black morocco, top edge gilt, housed in a cardboard slipcase, marked with gold embossing "D. H. MERCHER" on the front endpaper. The original cover is bound at the beginning of the book. Excellent condition.
