TWO BOXES WITH ENAMELS

The enamelled box with a scene of the Rape of Europa is a typical example of the most luxurious objects produced in Limoges. Owing to their popularity, similar pieces were made in local workshops from the late 16th century up to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, while maintaining a high level of craftsmanship based on traditional techniques (fire gilding) and the high skill of painters and artisans. 2.8×4.9×3.7 cm. Struck mark on the lid handle; historical inventory label on the underside.
Together with: a circular brass compact with a hinged lid and a mirror on its underside, the top decorated with blue guilloché enamel, Ø 3.4 cm, unmarked.
