PAIR OF PAINTED JUGS

Upper Austria, 1st half of the 19th century, and Slovakia, 2nd half of the 19th century
A faience jug of pear shape on a low foot, with a pulled handle fitted with a pewter mount with a flat hinged lid and a shell-shaped thumbpiece, also the foot is set in a pewter border. On the white glaze, a figural décor painted in high-fire colours with a Rococo gallant scene in a landscape, surrounded by stylised vegetal motifs, hatched borders and handle. Together with: a jug of similar form without a lid, white-glazed, décor painted in predominantly blue shades, in the central floral band complemented by yellow and green. H. 28 a 23 cm. On the base of the first jug, blue unglazed brush mark "AM" in ligature, the second unmarked. Condition A-C. First jug glued. Provenance: from the collection of PhDr. Miroslav Boček (1915–2005).
