Johann Weyer (1515–1588): Artzney Buch: Von etlichen bisz anher unbekannten unnd unbeschriebenen Kranckheyten. Format 12°, 15.6 x 9.4 cm. 115 numbered leaves + 3 leaves of index, in German. Printed by Nicolaus Basse in Frankfurt am Main in 1583. Title page and approx. 5 leaves lacking. This treatise by the eminent Dutch physician was first published in 1580 in Frankfurt am Main. It deals with diseases until then unknown or poorly described, such as scurvy and various kinds of inflammations and skin or internal ailments. For each disease the author discussed its origin, clinical presentation, course, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment options. Fabian Scheuner: De Catharris: Von Allerley Flössen vnnd Catharren. 262 numbered pages, in German. Title page printed in black and red. Published in Leipzig around 1600. A medical treatise on colds and catarrhs, which according to the knowledge of the time originated in the brain and affected the internal organs and limbs. First published in 1594. Both texts are bound together in a sturdy vellum binding with a printed paper label and a manuscript number label on the spine. Given the age of the book, its condition is very good, with slight woodworm damage to the binding and a few leaves lacking (see above).
