HUSSITE CHURCH AT VINOHRADY IN PRAGUE

1930`s
Vintage gelatin silver print on matte paper Mimosa Gravura. 174x127 mm. Marked on the verso "foto Pikart". The five photographs by an unknown artist come from Prague. Notes in pencil "# JSU 12" or "Photo: Pikart" are obviously written later. JSU`s letters can be mistaken for Josef Sudek, though it is true that he is the author of the famous cycle of photographs of Charles Bridge by night, but he began to photograph Charles Bridge in the early 1950`s. Photo of the Hussite Church at Vinohrady or Diving tower at Barrandov are perfect examples of functionalistic photography and could actually refer to Arnost Pikart or Josef Sudek, who also photographed the Barrandov Tower. But with regard to the type of paper, format, processing, etc., it is almost certain that all five photographs are the work of a single author, so the authorship of Sudek or Pikart seems unlikely. It is almost impossible to attribute the phographs correctly, but this does not change the fact that they are of high quality. The artist was obviously acquainted with modern photographic movemnets (functionalism, new virtue) and also the technical processing of photos is very good. Condition A/B.
Slightly bumped corners.
