Jankel Adler (1895-1949)
STILL LIFE WITH PEARS
Oil on plywood, 62,5x47,5 cm (frame aperture), signed upper left "Adler". Framed. The intimate atmosphere of the theme underlined by gentle warm chromaticism corresponds to other artist`s still lifes from the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, in which he often uses ritual objects of the Jewish religion. The seeming calm of the still life is crushed by the trembling atmosphere that evokes the feeling of movement and unrest that was so characteristic for artist`s personal life and emerged with dramatic energy in his later work influenced by his stay in Paris.
