TANKARD WITH A TIN LID

Germany, Thuringia, Dorotheenthal, 1733
Cylindrical jug for beer, handle and edge with a tin mounting, lid with an inserted medal for coronation of Leopold II (1790, designed by Johann Christian Reich) and a globular thumbrest, faience, white glaze, decorated with cobalt painted cartouche with a flower basket with black outline, manganese marbled background. Lit.: J. G. T. Graesse, Porzellan und Fayence, Klinkhardt & Biermann 1963, p. 132, no. 7 and 8. H. 23,5 cm. Engraved initials on the lid „M. H.“, torso of a mark "...ICH", bottom brush mark „RL“ and no. „16“. Condition restored. Second tankard: condition C. Cracks in the glaze, partially peeled-off painting.
