Format 8°, 19.5 x 12.5 cm, 227 numbered pages, in Czech. Translated from Norwegian by M. Lesná-Krausová. The pictorial supplement contains 15 black-and-white reproductions of Gauguin`s paintings. Title page printed in black and red. Firm leather binding with blind- and gilt-stamped decoration, spine with gilt lettering and gilt top edge, executed by Jindřich Svoboda, marked with a blind stamp "JS" on the back pastedown. The original wrapper is bound in at the end of the book together with a newspaper article about the book from 20 February 1939, "Paul Gauguin in the Mirror of His Son". Cardboard slipcase numbered, signed, and marked "120 Svoboda EN 77". Published by R. Škeřík a spol. in Prague in 1939 as vol. 120 of the Symposion series. Besides the edition on antique paper, 20 copies were printed on English Albans paper, numbered I-XX, and 200 copies on domestic simili-Japan paper, numbered 1-200. This copy bears no. "XIV". Front pastedown with the bookplate "PH. MR. M. Helcelet.". Very good condition, only a minor stain on the spine and slightly faded slipcase.
